Compact City Garden
An extension at the rear this mid-terrace house in Amersfoort left the garden much shorter and smaller. The client required some budget friendly options that made the most of the existing hard landscaping materials to create a space that served the needs of the whole family.
Extending the length of the garden
To create the feeling of space, the old square paving slabs and bricks were laid in a diagonal pattern. Following the line of the two farthest points extended the length of the garden, and added cohesion and unity in a garden of two halves. The planting followed this diagonal pattern allowing for deeper and more dynamic plant borders. Combining the two contrasting styles of paving also created additional interest and broke up the visual monotony of the space.
The L-shaped garden layout was placed at the forefront of the new garden design, using this to dictate the direction of the paving and create a more dynamic space.

The design successfully incorporated a dining and seating area, woodshed and multifunctional space for the children. A pergola provided additional height and a greener outlook from the house which was complemented by a selection of evergreen planting and perennials.
